Round 7 of the Archerfield Kart Hire Thunder Series at Lockyer Valley Speedway. 13/02/2016

Tonight at Lockyer Valley Speedway shows that there's great racing with the top three finishes

With heat wins going to Steve Van Zeeland, Ricky Robertson and Carter Armstrong the racing was tuff. With Kirstin Van Zeeland being involved in an accident she was then out from getting injured in the first heat, her Brother Aaron Van Zeeland quickly hopped into the car to have a run.

Nick Girdlestone having troubles with getting the car started but was able to finish every race to come home in 3rd in the feature.

Ricky Robertson had a great run back from having some time off the last two seasons ending up with getting a 2nd in the feature.

Steve Van Zeeland had a great night starting outside pole and making a gusty outside pass around Ricky Robertson to the lead the car all the way to 1st.

Ricky Robinson 2nd, Steve van Zeeland 1st, Nick Girdlestone 3rd.

AARON VAN ZEELAND WINS AT LOCKYER VALLEY
Aaron van Zeeland (Q22) clinched the Lockyer Valley Allstars Late Model Series at Lockyer Valley Speedway Gatton (QLD) Saturday May 17. Van Zeeland was leading the A Main when the race was red flagged as a result of Greg Town (Q21) contacting the safety fence hard, tearing down a large section of catch fence. Although Town was OK, the race meeting had to be curtailed as the damage to the fence was too severe. Van Zeeland jumped away at the start of the race to lead Paul Carlish (Q23) and Kev Stow (Q56) before a yellow flag for Kirstin van Zeeland (Q88), who had spun onto the infield. Aaron van Zeeland re-established his lead at the restart as Stow, in third, drifted high to let Nick Girdlestone (Q7) through. Stow then went high again, as Steve van Zeeland (Q77) moved past as well. Stow then found himself under pressure from Town, as Kirstin van Zeeland attempted to go up the inside of the Town machine. As Kirstin van Zeeland cleared Town she made contact with Stow, riding over the front left of the Stow machine and spinning infield. Town went high to avoid the incident but with too much speed on board rode the wall in spectacular fashion. The race was declared with Aaron van Zeeland the winner from Stephen Carlish and Nick Girdlestone.

Kane lead all 15 laps of the A Main, to defeat Aaron van Zeeland (Q22) and Matt Ingrey (Q17). NSW racer Nathan Disney (N11) placed 4th, while behind a battle raged between Travis Barron (Q31), Nick Girdlestone (Q7), and Kevin Stow (Q56), with the positions changing several times before being finalised in that order. Michael Jenner (Q6), Steve van Zeeland (Q77), and Greg Towns (Q21) were the remaining finishers. Aaron van Zeeland and Nathan Disney also won a Heat each.

The Ian Boettcher Race Parts Thunder Series is currently lead by Matt Ingrey (Q17), who holds a slender three point margin over Nick Girdlestone (Q7). Aaron van Zeeland (Q22) is placed third, with Kev Stow only a further 20 points in arrears. The Lockyer Valley Late Model Series has the ever consistent Nick Girdlestone, and last start winner Aaron van Zeeland, tied on 564 points. The battle for third is just as intense, with Stephen Carlish (Q23) only one point clear of Steve van Zeeland (Q77). Both meetings will provide plenty of action for race fans. Round 6 of the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Thunder Series has attracted a quality field that includes current Queensland Champion Darren Kane, and current NSW Champion Nathan Disney. Victorian racer Justin Pearson is also making the long haul to compete. Local racer Travis Barron knows the fast way around the Kingaroy track and should figure at the pointy end of the field. AARON VAN ZEELAND WINS AT LOCKYER VALLEY
Late Models competed at Lockyer Valley Speedway Gatton (QLD) Saturday April 12 with Aaron Van Zeeland (Q22) claiming the A Main after pressuring Nick Girdlestone (Q7) for most of the race. Mid distance saw Van Zeeland make a slight error, however he worked hard to get back onto the rear of the Girdlestone machine, and when the pair came up to lap Kirstin Van Zeeland (Q88), Aaron moved to the outside and was able to pass Girdlestone and the lapped car in one. Van Zeeland then started to pull away as Girdlestone came under pressure from Steve Van Zeeland (Q77) and Stephen Carlish (Q23), both of whom had been squabbling over 3rd all race. Aaron Van Zeeland went on to record a comfortable victory, with Girdlestone just holding off Carlish in the run to the line. Steve Van Zeeland finished 4th.

TOUGH TIME FOR QUEENSLAND RACERS IN AUSTRALIAN TITLE
A strong contingent of Queensland racers travelled south to contest the Australian Late Model Championship at Borderline Speedway Mt Gambier (SA) on March 7/8 but found the going tough in what was two nights of hectic action. Darren Kane starred early on night 1 by finishing 3rd in his first Heat, and then won his 2nd Heat, setting a new one lap record of 12.7 seconds. Kane was leading his 3rd Heat when an oil line came off damaging an engine bearing, ending his challenge for the Title.
Blair Granger was another racer in the wars on night 1, going out with engine failure. Matt Ingrey got a 2nd and 3rd on Night 1, but found the going tougher on Night 2. Ingrey qualified via the B Dash and started out of position 15 in the 40 lap A Main. He ran mid pack for the first 10 laps before an incident saw several cars tangle, with Ingrey requiring medical attention (non life threatening). Aaron Van Zeeland, despite winning a Heat on Night 2, found himself in the B Main with father Steve and Kingaroy racer Travis Barron. Aaron Van Zeeland started from position five but worked his way up to a 2nd place finish at the flag, earning a transfer spot into the A Main. Steve Van Zeeland and Barron were both finished for the weekend. Starting from position 18, Aaron Van Zeeland finished 7th in the A Main, one lap down on winner Brad Blake.

DARREN KANE IS QUEENSLAND CHAMPION
Darren Kane (#Q36) once again showed his mastery of the tricky Toowoomba Speedbowl (QLD) high banks to take a dominating victory in the 2013/14 Queensland Late Model Championship held at the track on February 7/8. Kane started off pole in the 30 lap title decider on the Saturday night, and lead every lap, bar one, stamping his authority on the race from the outset. While Ben Nicastri (#N3), who started on the front row alongside Kane after a strong run in the Heats, drifted back through the field, it was fellow NSW racer Dave Robertson (#N4X) who took the battle up to Kane. Robertson, who started from position three, managed to wrestle the race lead away from Kane on lap 6, but it didn't take Kane long to assert control again and he went on to take a sensational victory, lapping 3rd placegetter Bruce Mackenzie (#N6) late in the race. Robertson kept the pressure on Kane, finishing just 12 seconds in arrears, while Mackenzie just held off Matt Ingrey (#Q17) in the run to the flag. Paul Stubber (#N9) rounded out the top 5.

The NSW based Nicastri Motorsport father and son team of Ross (N3) and Ben Nicastri (N99) made the long haul from Sydney worthwhile when they competed at the Toowoomba Speedbowl (QLD) Sunday December 29. Both had raced in Sydney only 24 hours earlier. The Heats saw Ross take two wins with Ben winning the third. In the Feature Ben dominated, although Ross lead from the start before drifting up track, while Matt Ingrey (Q17) applied plenty of pressure to Ben for the first half of the race, the pair running side by side for several laps. Ben maintained his composure however to lead Matt Ingrey (Q17) and Ross to the flag. The van Zeeland family had three cars on hand, with Aaron (Q1) finishing 4th in the Feature, ahead of Michael Jenner (Q6) and Steve van Zeeland (Q77). Stephen Carlish (Q37) and Kirstin van Zeeland (Q12), in only her second Late Model race meeting, rounded out the finishers.

DARREN KANE VICTORIOUS IN ZOE GIRDLESTONE MEMORIAL
Darren Kane has maintained his winning run in Queensland with victory in the 3rd Annual Zoe Girdlestone Memorial held at Lucas Oil Kingaroy Speedway (QLD) Saturday November 9. Kane (Q36), who won Round 1 of the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Thunder Series in Toowoomba the previous weekend, did not have it all his own way however, with several racers taking the challenge up to him. The race was conducted under a US format with Kane topping the 14 car field in Time Trials with a 14.566. Matt Ingrey (Q17), Dave Robertson (N44), and Ben Nicastri (N99) were also in the 14 second bracket, and these three drivers were the ones who would trouble Kane the most. Robertson and Nicastri, both from NSW, went on to win the two Heats, before Robertson defeated Kane in the Pole Shuffle. The 30 lap A Main to decide the Zoe Girdlestone Memorial saw Kane lead away and set a cracking pace, with Robertson in pursuit. Kane continued to lead as several battles raged down the field, but on lap 14 Robertson dropped off the pace after accidently hitting the kill switch, allowing those behind to slip past. Kane maintained his pace and went on to take victory. Nicastri started out of position 4, and worked his way into position 2 on lap 14. The young racer looked strong as he crossed the line in 2nd, with Matt Ingrey 3rd after closing on Nicastri, having set his fastest time on lap 27 after running 5th early in the race.

STRONG FIELD FOR ROUND 1 OF IAN BOETTCHER RACE PARTS THUNDER SERIES
A strong 15 car field has nominated for Round 1 of the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Thunder Series to be held at the Toowoomba Speedbowl (QLD) Saturday November 2. 12 Queensland racers will face stiff opposition from 3 NSW competitors who will be looking for success on the Speedbowl high banks. Nathan Disney (#11), Tim Bink (#41) and Ben Nicastri (#99), have all shown that they know there way to victory lane, so the Queensland contingent, led by last start Toowoomba winner Darren Kane (#36), in the race sponsors Dominator chassis, and current Queensland Champion Aaron van Zeeland (#Q1), will have to be right on their game. With other leading Queensland racers like Blair Granger (#5), Kev Stow (#12), Matt Ingrey (#54), and Nick Girdlestone (#7), who won last week in Gatton, in the mix, there should be plenty of action for race fans to lap up. Click here for the Heat lineups in Round 1 of the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Thunder Series.

LATE MODELS TO RUMBLE IN THE 'ROY' IN JANUARY 2015

In a first for Queensland it is with great pleasure that Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway is able to officially announce that the club has been successful in its bid to host the 14th Australian Dirt Late Model Australian Title.

The Australian Title is set to be run on Thursday 1st Jan 2015 to Saturday 3rd Jan 2015 (Sunday 4th Jan 2015 being a rain date). 1st Jan will be for scrutineering, practice, and the Calcutta, and then on Friday 2nd Jan the Late Models will get their opportunity to strut their stuff in anger for the first time around the Kingaroy Speedway bullring, with the final night being Saturday 3rd Jan.

Club President  Ashley Barron was ecstatic when told that Kingaroy Speedway had been successful in hosting the 2014/15 Australian Late Model Title. Barron went on to say that this would an excellent opportunity for the people of Queensland to see the best of the best in Australia in Late Models, and “what better way to promote the racing category, and grow car numbers in Queensland, then with an Australian Title”.

The best drivers from Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland will be in attendance for what will be the highlight of the 2014/15 Late Model calendar. The interest in this event is expected to be huge with rumours already that up to 6 Americans will also be attending the Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway to try to wrestle the title away from the Australians.

We are sure that local Late Model drivers, and brothers, Ashley and Travis Barron, will have something to teach the Americans and the rest of the contingent coming to their home track.

The Late Models will be appearing at Lucas Oils Kingaroy Speedway this season on Sat 9th November, Sat 22nd Feb and Sat 3rd May.

DARREN KANE DOMINATES SPEEDBOWL
A DNF in Heat 2 was the only 'fail' on the Darren Kane report card from the Toowoomba Speedbowl Meeting held September 21. Kane won Heat 1 (after early race leader Nick Girdlestone retired mid distance), DNF'd Heat 2, dominated Heat 3, and repeated that feat in the 12 lap Feature, setting the fastest Late Model lap of the night (13.815) in the process. Michael Jenner won Heat 2, that saw only 4 cars finish, while Nick Girdlestone and Kev Stow filled the podium positions behind Kane in the Feature. Stow lead the first two laps of the Feature, while Girdlestone started out of postion 5 and charged hard throughout the race. Click here for Race Results and click here for Colin Stratford photos.

Kane lead all 20 laps of the A Main, after winning his two Heats. Matt Ingrey was the other Heat winner, and he claimed the runner-up position in the A Main, while Aaron van Zeeland was third, the only other competitor not to be lapped by Kane. A small six car field contested the A Main, but van Zeeland was under pressure for the entire 15 lap distance, with Kev Stow almost glued to his rear barwork. Stow, who won the other Heat held on the night, encountered a car issue as he exited the final turn in the A Main, dropping him to the tail of the field, as Matt Ingrey and Jake Hawkins swept past to claim the minor podium positions. Round 5 of the Series scheduled for Kingaroy Speedway on March 9 was cancelled due to inclement weather.

DOMINATING WIN TO GARTNER AT CHARLTON
A strong 16 car field fronted at Charlton Raceway Toowoomba (QLD) Saturday February 9 for Round 4 of the All Parts Barn Thunder Series, but in the final wash up it was the ‘dominating’ performance by one car and driver that had everyone talking. South Australian Sedan racer Dave Gartner came north to substitute for the injured Darren Kane in the Dominator #36. Gartner, making his first ever Late Model start, took to driving the car like a duck to water, finishing 3rd in his first Heat after starting 7th. The night then got better and better for Gartner with an all the way win in his second Heat, and a similar performance in the 24 lap A Main, where he finished three seconds clear of the opposition. The victory also marked the first Late Model A Main win for the Dominator chassis. A torrid battle ensued for the minor placings in the A Main, with Blair Granger, who had looked strong all night, holding second for most of the journey, only to be pipped on the final lap by Michael Jenner, who worked the high line to perfection. Matt Ingrey finished a close 4th, but was well in the mix also after starting 11th. Joining Granger (2) and Gartner as Heat winners was Aaron van Zeeland. Late Model action will return to Charlton on March 2 with the State Title on the line. Watch all the action from the A Main below  and to watch all four Heats and the A Main click here. Bonsey, in her first Late Model race meeting, showed plenty of maturity, and will be a driver to watch out for in the future. Heat wins went to Aaron van Zeeland (#9), Matt Ingrey (#54), and Jake Hawkins #12). Click here for the full results.

QUEENSLAND RACERS OUT OF LUCK IN MILDURA
The father and son team of Kev Stow and Matt Ingrey travelled to Mildura over Easter to contest the Cross Roads Holiday Park Mildura Easter $10,000. It was a tough weekend for Matt, being off the pace. He qualified for the 50 lap A Main but retired just before mid distance, to be joined a lap later by his father. Kev ran well in the Heats though, securing two third placings and a second. He then accounted for his first three rivals in the Pole Shuffle, which earned him a position 7 start in the A Main. Kev ran well early, but joined his son on the infield mid race. The $10,000 race was won by Western Australia's Craig Vosbergen.

QUEENSLAND RACERS FIND THE GOING TOUGH IN AUSTRALIAN TITLE
The Queensland contingent of racers (7) that contested the Frank's Auto Parts Australian Late Model Championship at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway (NSW) January 27/28 found the going tough in the face of stiff opposition. Dean Hawkins in the Q43 machine was the most impressive of the LMRQ racers Time Trialling 9th (of 36 cars) and finishing in a placing in each of the Heats he contested (3rd, 3rd, 2nd). Hawkins also finished 2nd in a Friday Mini Feature and was 4th in points after Night 1. Hawkins form continued into the Saturday portion of the program where he made the top eight and finished 7th in Dash 1, earning a start from that position in the A Main. When the green flag was unfurled he dropped back to run 10th before an untimely spin at mid distance relegated him to the rear. He retired not much further into the race, leaving the top Queensland finisher as Nick Girdlestone (driving a Bruce Mackenzie car) in 17th with Aaron van Zeeland 18th. Matt Ingrey was the only other LMRQ racer to make the A Main and retired at two thirds distance.

QUEENSLAND RACERS MISS OUT IN NSW LATE MODEL TITLE
The NSW Late Model Championship was held at Lucas Oil Lismore Speedway (NSW) Saturday January 14 with seven LMRQ race teams heading over the border in search of glory. It was a tough night for the Queensland contingent in the face of quality opposition such as USA racers Steve Francis and Devin Moran, Australian Champion Brad Blake, and top NSW racers like Nathan Disney and Darryl Grimson. The record books will show that Moran won the title from Blake and Grimson, but the LMRQ racers performed well, with (Q5) Blair Granger 4th, (Q17) Kev Stow 5th, (Q54) Matt Ingrey 6th, (Q24) Russell Bonsey 7th, and (Q77) Steve van Zeeland 9th in the 30 lap A Main. The next meeting for LMRQ members will be the Frank's Auto Parts Australian Late Model Championship at Tyrepower Sydney Speedway (NSW) January 27/28.

BLAIR GRANGER TAKES WIN NUMBER THREE
Three Rounds of the Dryden Signs Thunder Series are in the books for this season, and Blair Granger (Q5) has a perfect score. Blair's most recent Round win was at Kingaroy Speedway (QLD) Saturday November 26 where he lead all the way in the 15 lap Feature. With Blair contributing all of his winnings to the 'Cranky Red Head Appeal' (benefitting good friend Matt Stocker who is fighting cancer) the fund got a sizeable boost! Chris Bates (Q21) enjoyed his best night in a long time to finish 2nd in the Feature, while Kev Stow (Q17) got past Russell Bonsey (Q24) at mid distance to snatch 3rd. GRANGER TAKES TWO IN A ROW
LMRQ competitors journeyed to Charlton Raceway Towoomba (QLD) Saturday November 19 for Round 2 of the Dryden Signs Late Model Thunder Series. Blair Granger (#5) consolidated his points lead in the Series, with an all-the-way victory in the Feature, after a 2nd and 5th in the Heats. The victory had extra meaning for Blair, as his good friend Matt Stocker is currently fighting cancer, with Blair donating all prizemoney he earns to the "Cranky Red Head Appeal" (details to be released soon). Aaron van Zeeland (#9) had a memorable evening, with a 4th and 1st in the Heats, and a great all-the-way 2nd in the Feature, finishing just 1.5 seconds behind Blair. Matt Ingrey (#54) completed the podium, after a 5th and 2nd in the Heats. Matt's drive in Heat 2 was inspirational, as he charged up from position 6 to run 2nd on lap 9. The inaugural ‘Zoe Girdlestone Memorial’ was contested at SuperCheap Auto Archerfield Speedway (Brisbane QLD) Saturday November 12. The race commemorated the daughter of LMRQ Founding Member Nick Girdlestone. Zoe passed away in 2009 as a result of cystic fibrosis. Girdlestone (#7) was one of the starters in this year’s race that doubled as a fund raiser for the ‘Make-A-Wish’ Foundation. A field of 14 cars was on hand to do battle, with Heat 1 going to ACT racer Scott McPherson (#N7) after an all-the-way victory. Heat 2 saw Russell Bonsey (#24) work his way forward to greet the chequered flag first, having passed Stephen Carlish (#37) on the last lap. David Robertson (#X4) started mid pack in Heat 3, but sliced through to lead at mid distance, going on to secure the win. Kev Stow (#17) won the final Heat by leading all 8 laps. The 25 lap Feature had Blair Granger off the front row and he made every post a winner by leading strongly. LMRQ Club Champion Dean Hawkins (#43) had desires on the inaugural ‘Zoe Girdlestone Memorial’ Trophy though, and made a successful challenge for the lead with six laps remaining. Hawkins claimed the victory, with Granger second, and Scott McPherson finishing 3rd after fending off a late race challenge from David Robertson who would eventually finish 4th. Matt Ingrey (#54) powered through the field early to move up to 5th, a position he would maintain until the flag fell.

BLAIR GRANGER DOMINATES SEASON OPENER
Blair Granger (#5) has carried his good 2010/11 form into the new season with an all the way victory in the Feature race at Round 1 of the Dryden Signs Thunder Series contested at SuperCheap Auto Archerfield Speedway (Brisbane QLD) Saturday October 22. Granger also dominated his two Heats, and was one of only two drivers to consistently break into the 14 second lap time bracket. Defending Series Champion Dean Hawkins (#43) was the big mover in the Feature, after starting rear of field. Hawkins slowly picked cars off and sat in second at the half way mark, but was unable to bridge the gap to Granger. Nick Girdlestone (#7) started from position two, and after being passed by Hawkins was able to retain 3rd at the flag. Jake Hawkins, who apart from Granger, was the only other competitior to dip into the 14 second bracket, won a Heat, as did Kevin Stow. Ten cars were on hand for the season opener.
